Jeanna Gomez spearheaded the establishment of the Somatic Experiencing Houston Community (SEHC). She is a Complex Trauma Specialist and Relational Therapist. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Body Work and Somatic Healing Touch Practitioner and a Certified Professional Coach. She utilizes Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Brainspotting, PIT Relational Developmental trauma model and 25 plus years of experiencing in her work with clients. She is the owner of Gomez Counseling and Consulting Services and the Trauma Healing and Recovery Center, in the Houston/Bellaire area. Learn more about Jeanna Gomez and her services.
In her journey with Somatic Experiencing, she became the first Latina SE Practitioner in Houston, was the Lead Training Assistant for the Houston & St Louis trainings and now she is the first Latina Faculty member for Somatic Experiencing International (SEI) in North America. As of 2023, she is the faculty trainer for Houston and Austin Texas trainings and looks forward to establishing more in the U.S and abroad.
In 2009, Jeanna began her SE training in Austin Texas, which was the first and only city in Texas at the time to offer SE training. After realizing the impact that SE would truly have on the resolution of trauma for individuals she began to contemplate how to bring this model to Houston. In 2013 she began to explore, have small brain storming meetings and was amazed that although Houston is one of the largest cities in the U.S. there were only 9 SE trained therapist in the city, including herself. So she set out on a journey to bring this incredible trauma healing model to Houston and expand the available trauma healing practitioners.
After countless trips to other cities to see how they formulated their trainings, built their trauma healing communities and created momentum she was ready to bring SE to Houston. With the help of those other few SE trained therapists in Houston, The Somatic Experiencing International, a great Somatic Experiencing trainer Dave Berger and a beautiful Coordinator Leah Gaston, we started our first SE training in Houston in 2017 at the Council on Recovery. Today, we continue our goals of increasing Somatic Experiencing trained professionals in our Houston community. The trainings will continue and the possibilities for trauma healing within our city and beyond will keep growing.
Jeanna wanted to have a site dedicated to bringing awareness to the community of Houston and surrounding areas that there are practitioners in our city who are ready and trained in SE that can help. We follow the words of the founder of SE, Peter Levine, Ph.D, who said, “trauma is a fact of life, but it doesn’t have to be a life sentence”.
